CRUSH GOALS & GUIDELINES

Goals of the Crush Program

  • Provide a fun, positive baseball environment.

  • Teach players to play the game the right way and help them work toward their individual goals.

Goals of Crush Coaches

  • Model strong ethics and behavior

  • Teach new skills and develop existing ones

  • Use game time to reinforce practice work and address mistakes constructively

Guidelines for Players

  • Practice at home to reinforce what you’ve learned

  • Take ownership by applying coaching and staying focused

Guidelines for Parents

  • Support your player at home with extra practice

  • At games and practices, aim to be a “silent source of encouragement” so coaches can lead

  • For questions or concerns, contact the head coach (we find a 24-hour pause helpful before discussing game situations)

Silent Source of Encouragement

  • From the Matheny Manifesto: “The biggest role of the parent is to be a silent source of encouragement - if you ask most boys what they would want their parents to do during the game, they would say "Nothing.""

Examples of What to Avoid During Games or Practices:

  • Coaching from the sidelines

  • Interacting with umpires or the opposing team

Final Notes

Our coaches will work toward these goals consistently, and we ask families to support these guidelines so players can grow and coaches can coach effectively.
If you haven’t yet, we recommend reading the Matheny Manifesto written by former MLB player and manager Mike Matheny. It’s a big part of our philosophy. (Click to read).
